The Book of Revelation: Lesson 3 | Chapter 1:17-20

A study in the book of Revelation.

In this lesson we discuss what Jesus’ adornment and how it was very different from what John was accustomed to seeing him wear when He walked the earth. You see, John was looking at the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!! John did not mention a crown here because Jesus appeared to him as his high priest. It is later that he will appear as King of Glory and our redeemer wearing a crown in Revelation 19.

Christ has always been and will always be God. We are sure that John explained that lesson often, and even wrote about it “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:1-14; 1 John 1:1-3). John was now privileged and blessed to see it for himself in Christ’s appearance to him on the Isle of Patmos. Further, we conduct an in depth discussion about Jesus’s physiological appearance and what each thing written by John means – hair, eyes, feet, and voice. Lastly, we discuss Jesus in the midst of the 7 Golden Lampstands, the meaning of the seven stars in his hands and the fact that John fell at his feet as dead. There is also a rather lengthy discussion of Jesus’ right hand touching John and what the right-hand means Biblically.
